SafeGuard MailGateway
The intelligent software appliance for central e-mail security
The most frequent use of the Internet is to send emails. E-mails have established themselves as a standard part of the day's commercial traffic but, up to now it was not possible to represent all company-specific work processes involved in it electronically. The greatest challenge is to be able to securely exchange e-mail with confidential contents.
While it is possible to encrypt and sign confidential e-mails using e-mail clients, this requires staff to know how to use the security solution. As a consequence, the consistent implementation of a company's security policy depends directly on the knowledge and discipline of each individual member of its staff.
Utimaco's SafeGuard MailGateway integrates the cryptographic processes involved in encryption/decryption, and also in electronic signatures and verification, at one central point in the corporate network. The security solution is transparent for the sender and automatically implements the company's internal security guidelines for e-mail communication. The senders and recipients can communicate via e-mail in the usual way without having to worry about the confidentiality of the contents.
The SafeGuard MailGateway guarantees:
- that existing e-mail-based workflow processes are supplemented by its confidentiality, authenticity and integrity in a simple and secure way
- that e-mail encryption and digital signatures are implemented from a central location, so enabling the enforcement of internal security guidelines
- The program can automatically decrypt incoming and outgoing e-mails for recipients in the company's own network or encrypt them for external recipients.
To encrypt or decrypt e-mails, and make digital signatures, the SafeGuard MailGateway uses the established S/MIME and OpenPGP Internet standards. Alternatively, SafeGuard PrivateCrypto and SafeGuard WebMail ensure that connections between external communications partners are secured, without a security infrastructure.
The SafeGuard MailGateway is scalable from small installations through redundant installations to organization-wide use in clusters.
