Phoenix technologies and Utimaco join to provide enterprises with mobile PC management and data security solution
- Utimaco to Use FailSafe Remote “Kill” to Disable a Compromised PC
- Phoenix to Integrate Utimaco SafeGuard Encryption into FailSafe™ Offering
Oberursel, Germany/ Milpitas, Calif., April 7, 2008 — Phoenix Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: PTEC), the global leader in core systems firmware, and Utimaco (Frankfurt Stock Exchange: ISIN DE0007572406), the Data Security Company, today announced a strategic partnership. Phoenix plans to integrate Utimaco’s market leading SafeGuard data protection technology into the Phoenix FailSafe™ solution, and Utimaco will offer enhanced management of Phoenix FailSafe’s theft-deterrence functionality.
With FailSafe and SafeGuard Enterprise combined, IT managers will now have an in-house, enterprise-grade management console that will allow them to track the location of the PC assets as well as ensure comprehensive data protection of all their systems, including full encryption of all mobile devices.
“Organizations need to look beyond standard password and hard drive protection methods to protect sensitive data,” said Malte Pollmann, Executive Vice President, Products. “Utimaco is working closely with Phoenix to provide a comprehensive mobile PC security solution for IT managers. As a result of our product collaboration, IT managers will receive state-of-the-art data protection that is transparent to end users, making it the perfect fit for enterprise environments.”
“With the increase in identity theft instances resulting from data loss theft and computer theft, it is critical to embed advanced anti-theft protection and data security into next-generation laptops including features such as remote kill,” said Surendra Arora, VP of Business Development at Phoenix Technologies. “Phoenix FailSafe combined with Utimaco SafeGuard technology offers enterprise IT departments an easy-to-monitor solution that includes a very advanced level of protection to ensure sensitive data remains safe from cyber criminals. We need to be able to address the need of every customer who wants to protect their valuable data and sensitive information that reside on their laptops. We need to give them the ability to retrieve their data, remotely encrypt it and kill the device in the event of a computer theft or loss, and even enable it again if/when the asset is recovered.”
Phoenix FailSafe allows mobile PC users to remotely encrypt, lock and destroy data on lost laptops to protect sensitive or private information. Users can even ‘kill’ or completely disable the computer remotely. As a result, consumers, small business owners and IT managers can remotely manage mobile PCs, much like mobile phones are managed, through an intuitive Web interface.
